To me, the mistakes and afflictions made when growing up, especially as a teenager, allow you to discover more about your own personal values and morals which then lead you to figuring out what identity means to you. My piece highlights this idea by focusing on the journey of hardships and struggles that come from growing into and finally finding your identity. It reflects how social standards and expectations of family and friends can force you to become cooped up in a hole where pretending becomes your 'new normal.' It forces you to hide your true emotions behind a mock-up smile in fear of not meeting specific standards. The struggles to find your identity especially at a young age can be caused by many factors and I have shown the effects of it here from my model and friend Agnes Lofgren.
