Internships are an amazing way to spend a summer or holiday break. Aside from the other numerous benefits of internships, ranging from the opportunity to gain valuable work experience, explore a career path, develop new skills, network with professionals, and gain confidence, internships are also an excellent way for a high school student to show to colleges   his or her interest and future aspirations. Colleges are fond of students who seek a broad spectrum of opportunities and are willing to learn from others outside of their comfortable backgrounds. In this article, we will be introducing an insightful internship opportunity at one of Thailand’s fastest growing startups.

Blockchain, Cryptocurrency, Bitcoin?!

Enjoy Employee Benefits

Bitkub employees experience a very liberal and fast-forward way of working. Bitkub employees enjoy flexible work hours, unlimited vacation, free breakfast and lunch, a nap space at work, and even a free haircut. Work is measured by performance rather than time. Employees and interns alike are given mentors who help guide them in difficult situations and help improve their individual skills.

The Startup’s Unique WorkFlow

The workflow at Bitkub is distinctly unique, with employees separated into ‘teams’ rather than departments to boost the flow of information within the company. Team members sit at the same long coworking table–not in separate individual desks–without any walls in between, so there is no blockade to the flow of ideas. Moreover, there is no hierarchy in the company based on positions. Interns are treated and given the same work as real employees, and employees can call meetings with the CEO anytime to chat. The company tries to create an equal and comfortable work environment where employees are able to connect with one another.

Diving Deeper: Morning Routines that Matter

Most interns commute to the office using the BTS, starting their day off with enriching or funny podcasts. After arriving at work, they will open their computers to check Slack, an online medium where everyone shares their difficulties and work-in-progress with each other. While waiting for the others to arrive, interns write down their Daily Tasks on a digital to-do board to let their mentors know what their work plans are for the day. When everyone is settled in, each team does a Scrum, a quick daily meeting to discuss a morning market report and help identify solutions to problems each person faced. After the Scrum, everyone heads over to set the team’s Monthly Target.

Strategy to Strengthen Communications

At noon, interns and employees alike get delivered free lunches which they ordered from an application. Each person is given a certain amount of coins to order the food they would like to eat. After lunch, usually on Fridays, there is a Show & Tell where each team creates a presentation to update other teams on what they are doing through google hangouts. Then at 5 pm, everyone plays games to collect points for their respective color teams, from sports to board games. Bitkub has game time to improve employees’ relationships with one another. Before going home for the weekend, everyone does a Retrospective, reflecting on whether the goal set on Monday was achieved or what blockades were preventing them from achieving the goal.
