Hang Lay Tacos – Cultures of food

Submission Rationale

I'm betting that when everyone was younger, we all refused to try the odd-looking potent dish on the table, I mean,
I stuck with fried egg and chicken for quite a while 0-0. Change is always hard for everyone, it’s scary, and
you don’t really know what to expect. Up until now, my whole life has been about moving, meeting new people, and learning about different cultures. Since I am a Thai person that lived most of my childhood in Mexico, I came up with a Thai-Mexican fusion dish
called “Hang Lay Tacos”. I started by combining the two foods that I first pushed away, but later learned to love it through
culture. Gaeng Hang Lay is a northern Thai-Burmese delicacy consisting of a sweet and spicy pork belly curry,
ginger, tamarind paste, curry paste, and much more. The curry is cooked and served like the Mexican “Tacos de carnitas”
with grilled yellow corn tortillas grilled using the Hanglae curry's chili oil. The taco is then topped off with crispy fried
shallots, cilantro, lime, and salsa verde. Food brings people together because we are able to share our culture and heritage through food while simply enjoying the delicious meal.
