My artwork conveys the theme of the joy and struggles of adolescence. The shapes symbolize obstacles in life, while the ribbons represent a person's youth. Drifting across the dark void of uncertainty, young people face numerous decisions along their way to adulthood. But even with the tiring journey, hints of light on the ribbons and shapes can be seen, symbolizing support we receive from people we meet throughout our teenage years. These simple kindness and feedback can inspire a child to step out of their comfort zone and explore boundless opportunities that await them. This piece reflects my past experiences, as I’ve never expected myself to try abstract art before being introduced to it in art class. Though, with the flickering light of encouragement I had received from people around me, I was able to step out of my comfort zone, as this artwork gave me a new insight into art and my life as a teen. I’ve learned that we as humans all have flaws, and as part of the youth population that will be adapting to this world of possibilities, we should help support each other to reach our full potential for a better world in the future.
