Growing up as a third cultured student, 9-13 hours away from 'home', having access to a very good education and learning how to adapt with different cultures and nationalities has really taught me more than just academic knowledge, but social awareness. However as I grow and become more aware, I delve deeper in pondering.... where actually is home? I have grown up in Thailand since I was 3, meaning that all my social connections are friends from school or people I've met in Thailand but, somehow whenever I visit Australia or the UK, this ongoing train of thought challenges me to question which country is actually home. Obviously, being 16 I still have a while to figure that out, but even throughout my IGCSE fine art project, I was still unable to decide which culture I wanted to explore...so I did both. Throughout my art pieces I also wanted to include an theme of raising awareness so therefore proceeded to use bottle caps in the painting of a traditional Thai house to show the plastic pollution but also the opposing colours and the red highlighting the house to symbolise the uncertainty that I felt. (If interested in seeing my Australian textile piece about the awareness of the bushfires please don't hesitate to contact as I am keen to share that piece as well!)
